KCC Maidens v DLSWCC Wasps
With no Sunday Championship match on at Kowloon Cricket Club, the women’s teams from KCC and DLSWCC enjoyed a rare outing on the hallowed turf. The match was the first in the second half of the Women’s T20 Cup competition.

The KCC Maiden’s won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Maiden’s bowlers restricted the DLSWCC Wasps to 7/76 from their 20 overs with Jaswinder Kaur top scoring with 18 while Shanzeen Shahzad hit 17. The Haider sisters, Mahreen and Rida, grabbed two wickets each for the Maidens.

KCC’s opening batters, Keenu Gill and Sidra Nasreen, had little trouble knocking off the runs in just seven overs. Gill finished unbeaten on 40 while Nasreen scored 23 not out.
At KCC: DLSWCC Wasps 7/76 from 20 overs lost to KCC Maidens 0/77 from seven overs by ten wickets.

HK Cricket Match Report: Women’s Premier League – 7 February 2016

Bauhinia v Sail

The second match of the inaugural Women’s Premier League between Bauhinia (red) and Sail (blue) was played at Mission Road on Sunday, 7^th February 2016.

In stark contrast to the first match of the series, the second game was played under brilliantly clear skies with mild temperatures. Hoping to make best use of the conditions, Bauhinia’s skipper Mariko Hill opted to bowl first after winning the toss. The Sail opening pairing of Kary Chan and Rucitha Venkatesh got the innings off to a flying start with 14 runs coming off the first over, courtesy of some good running.

The pair moved the score to 23 after four overs before Pull To struck to dismiss Ruchitha in her first over – a wicket maiden. Pull To then bowled Shanzeen Shahzad in her next over to leave Sail on 2/31 in the seventh over.

Keenu Gill attempted to increase the run-rate but she was stumped by wicket-keeper Jenefer Davies after scoring 9 to give Pull To her third wicket.

Kary Chan hit a couple of boundaries in her 17 but she was next to fall, bowled by Amada Kwok, with the score on 51. A 20-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Chan Sau Ha and Emma Lai lifted the score to 71 at which stage Chan Sau Ha was caught by Mariko. The remaining Sail batters added 15 runs in the last three overs and the Sail innings finished with their score on 8/86 with Emma Lai unbeaten on 15.

Pull To was the pick of the bowlers for the Bauhinia team and she finished with the excellent figures of 3/16 from her four overs.

Pull To and Jenefer Davies opened the reply for Bauhinia and they put together an opening partnership of 31 before Pull To was bowled by Ruchitha for 22, including four boundaries. Davies and Mariko Hill added 42 runs for the second wicket but with the score on 73, Hill was bowled by Chan Sau Ha for 21 and, shortly afterwards, Davies was run-out for 15. With only 11 runs needed for victory and with plenty of overs and wickets in hand, Cindy Ho (8*) and Amanda Kwok (2*) eased Bauhinia over the line without further loss. Bauhinia’s victory gives them a 2-0 lead in the series.

Match Summary: Sail 8/86 from 20 overs lost to Bauhinia 3/87 from 18.5 overs by seven wickets.

Women’s Premier League – 31st January 2016

The inaugural match of the Women’s Premier League was played as a curtain raiser to the second T20 International between Hong Kong and Scotland at Mission Road. Featuring two teams of the best women’s players in Hong Kong, the Women’s Premier League will involve three matches played over the T20 format.

In the first match, HKCA Bauhinia (Red) defeated HKCA Sail (Blue) by 38 runs.

HKCA Bauhinia batted first and they scored 2/119 from their 20 overs with Natural Yip finishing on 54 not out and skipper Mariko Hill unbeaten on 26 not out. The pair added 71-runs in an unbroken third wicket partnership spanning ten overs.

Women’s Premier League - 31st January 2016

In reply, HKCA Sail started well with 27 runs coming from the opening partnership but once that stand was broken, wickets tumbled regularly and the women in blue were eventually dismissed for 81 in the 18th over. Top scorer was Keenu Gill with 26 while Kary Chan was the only other Sail batter to reach double figures. Mariko Hill was the best bowler on the day, picking up 2/9 from 2.5 overs.

At Mission Road: HKCA Bauhinia 2/119 from 20 overs beat HKCA Sail 81 from 17.5 overs by 38 runs.

The next match in the Women’s Premier League Series will be played at Mission Road on Sunday, 7th February starting at 1PM.

HKCC Willow Wielders v USRC
HKCC Willow Wielders wrapped up the Women’s League with a nine-wicket victory over USRC.

USRC batted first after winning the toss but they could only muster a total of 38 in 11.4 overs. Mariko Hill proved too much for the USRC women to handle as she picked up 4/12 from 3.4 overs. In reply, the Willow Wielders knocked off the runs in 4.4 overs.
At PKVR Reservoir: USRC 38 from 11.4 overs lost to HKCC Willow Wielders 1/39 from 4.4 overs by nine wickets.

HKCC Willow Wielders are the 2015-16 Women’s League Champions for the sixth successive year. HKCC Cavaliers finish second in the league while KCC Maidens finished third.

The women now take a break over Chinese New Year and they will return for the second half of the Women’s T20 Cup starting on 21 February. The top players however will still be action as the inaugural Women’s Premier League takes place.

The first ever fixture of the Women’s Premier League will be played as a curtain raiser to Hong Kong’s Twenty20 International clash against Scotland at Tin Kwong Road Recreational Ground on Sunday 31 January, 2016.

The “Sail” squad will take on the “Bauhinia” squad, with the first ball being bowled at 8:15am, in a match that aims at providing a “best vs the best” competition to minimise the gap between club and international representative cricket.

With the lure of playing in major global tournaments and gaining support from Hong Kong Sports Institute, 2016 is an important year for women’s cricket in Hong Kong. The premier league tournament will give national selectors an opportunity to observe how the players perform under pressure.

After spending time with Melbourne Renegades as an Associate Rookie in the Women’s Big Bash League, “Bauhinia” captain Mariko Hill is back in Hong Kong and ready to bring her experience to the team.

mariko-hill-cap “Mariko Hill will no doubt open the bowling and bat in the top four. Her pace is as quick as anyone’s in associate women’s cricket. It will be great to see if she can develop her bowling at an end of an innings also.” said Director of Cricket and Women’s Head Coach Charlie Burke.

“Her WBBL experience will help the squad by understanding how important preparation is and also showing that there are a lot of opportunities now opening up in women’s cricket outside of Hong Kong.”

The Women’s Premier League will be a three-match series and form the main selection guide for the Hong Kong squad over the coming 12 months.

“I think we might get a few surprises with some other players stepping up and keen to take on extra responsibilities within the team,” said Burke.

The second fixture will be played on the 7th of February at 1pm. The third game will be scheduled shortly.

HKCC Cavaliers v DLSWCC Wasps
At PKVR Reservoir, HKCC Cavaliers earned a bonus point after beating DLSWCC Wasps by 110 runs.

Mary Henderson top-scored for HKCC Cavaliers with 41 after they elected to bat first upon winning the toss. Cavaliers reached 7/163 from their 35 overs with Natural Yip and Emma Lai also making useful contributions.

In reply, DLSWCC Wasps were dismissed for 53 in 15.5 overs with Alison Siu picking up 3/13 from five overs.
At PKVR Reservoir: HKCC Cavaliers 7/163 from 35 overs beat DLSWCC Wasps 53 from 15.5 overs by 110 runs.

Women’s League – 10th January 2016

Willow Wielders v KCC Maidens
In a rare Women’s League match at HKCC, hosts Willow Wielders continued their unbeaten run this season with a six-wicket victory over KCC Maidens.

The KCC Maidens batted first after being sent in by the Willow Wielders and they struggled early and were soon reduced to 5/30. But some useful middle-order resistance by Renee Montgomery (24) and Godiva Li (22) lifted them to a total of 103 in 28.4 overs. Marina Lamplough was the pick of the HKCC bowlers with 3/7 from her five over spell.

Marina then struck 34 and with Chan Sau Ha contributing 23, HKCC Willow Wielders ran out comfortable winners in 21.1 overs for the loss of just four wickets.

The Willow Wielders victory ensured they retain the Women’s League title for the 2015-16 season – their sixth successive league title.
At HKCC: KCC Maidens 103 from 28.4 overs lost to HKCC Willow Wielders 4/104 from 21.1 overs by six wickets.

KCC Maidens v CCC Fung Wong
At PKVR Reservoir, KCC Maidens beat CCC Fung Wong by eight wickets. CCC Fung Wong, with only seven batters available, could only muster 67 in 24 overs with skipper Pull To top scoring with 23. Maheen Haider was the pick of the Maidens’ bowlers with 3/5 in four overs.

In reply, Sidra Nasreen hit 27 as the Maidens knocked off the runs in 9.1 overs.
At PKVR Reservoir: CCC Fung Wong 67 from 24 overs lost to KCC Maidens 2/69 from 9.1 overs by eight wickets.

Mariko Hill to Play in Women’s Big Bash League

Hong Kong’s Mariko Hill is one of eight players from the ‘developing cricket nations’ given a chance to take part in the inaugural rebel Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia.

The players, selected following the recent ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifier in Thailand, from China, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Scotland, Thailand and the Netherlands have been selected to join the eight rebel WBBL clubs as part of the WBBL Associate Rookie Program – a joint initiative between Cricket Australia (CA) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) to develop emerging players in non-traditional cricket countries.

Each of the rookie players will train with their rebel WBBL club during a two-week placement and attend home matches during that period. In the event of an injury to a contracted player, rebel WBBL clubs will be permitted to use their Rookie as a local replacement player, which would not contribute to the club’s overseas player limit.

ICC Associate and Affiliate member nations Ireland, Scotland, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, China and the Netherlands each nominated up to three players to be considered for selection ahead of the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifier.

mariko hill bowling Nominated players were considered by a selection panel consisting of Cricket Australia’s Women’s Youth Coach Cathryn Fitzpatrick, former England player Holly Colvin, former Bangladesh Test Cricketer Aminul Islam, and ICC Head of Global Development Tim Anderson, with the final selections made after observing players throughout the tournament.

“The women’s game has made great strides in recent years, with participation numbers, investment levels and playing opportunities all at record highs,” said ICC Head of Global Development Tim Anderson. “‎The introduction of the WBBL continues this momentum, and, with the support of Cricket Australia, it is great to have some of the best Associate and Affiliate players involved in this event.”
