The LCSD refurbishment of the Portland Street Rest Garden in Yau Tsim Mong District has been completed and the garden reopened to the public on 23 September.
It’s good that these public spaces are being upgraded. We’re just not sure that bright pink is the most restful of colours – and the image of octogenarian HongKongers playing Chinese chess on bright pink tables is certainly one for Instagram.
The 2.3 kilometre-long Tsuen Wan Waterfront Cycle Track is now fully open. Running from Tsuen Wan Riviera Park to Bayview Garden the path forms part of the 82km New Territories Cycle Track Network.
The new track as the name suggests runs along the waterfront and offers panoramic views of the Rambler Channel and Tsing Yi and connects to venues such as Tsuen Wan Riviera Park, Tsuen Wan Park and Tsuen Wan Sports Centre. Among the ancillary facilities along the route is a cycle practise area for those new to two wheels.

In recent weeks as temperatures have risen the government has issued almost daily Very Hot Weather Warnings.
Among the obvious, but welcome hot weather reminders is ‘Drink plenty of water’ which is sensible advice – except that the LCSD has closed all the public drinking fountains.
Far more people are likely to be injured or suffer from the heat than catch Covid-19 from the metal surface of a water fountain.
The Hong Kong Observatory has issued the Very Hot Weather Warning.
To prevent heatstroke, avoid prolonged activities outdoors.
If engaged in outdoor work or activities, wear a wide-brimmed hat and light-coloured, loose-fitting clothes. Stay in shaded areas as much as possible.
Drink plenty of water, and avoid beverages containing caffeine or alcohol.
If you feel sick, consult a doctor right away.

In March of this year HK Pride Parade applied to the police for a “letter of no objection” for the 2020 procession, as of the start of November a letter has not been issued.
The organising committee of the 13th HK Pride Parade have decided that if the public procession and assembly are not approved police, the event will be held online this year.
The theme of the 2020 parade is Here and Proud which the organising committee envision as:

As such, the development of the equality movement has made LGBT+ into one of the rays of iridescence that Hong Kong, the Oriental Pearl, radiates. The invention of hot air balloon in 1783 not only allows humans to fly, it demonstrated that impossible dreams could become reality with perseverance. Thus, we should let our dreams take flight.
Can a diverse, inclusive, non-discriminative society become reality? This year is the 13th Hong Kong Pride Parade and the key visual is the ‘Rainbow Hot Air Balloon’ revealing the different flags for sexual minorities, past mascots of the Hong Kong Pride Parade and the Lion Rock – symbol of Hong Kong.
The Sky Lantern is/was the embryonic form of a hot air balloon, in the past it spread messages far and wide, today it carries our dreams and prayers.
May we rise from the Lion Rock in the ‘Rainbow Hot Air Balloon’, longing for freedom, diversity, equality and justice to be shown to everyone.
