Yuen Long to Sheung Shui Cycle Path, Now Open

Just in time for the long weekend, the Tuen Mun – Ma On Shan cycle path extension opened this week.

The new 11km cycle track links Yuen Long with Sheung Shui and marks the completion of the entire 60km-long cycle track backbone between Tuen Mun and Ma On Shan.

The newly opened track passes through several scenic spots including Kam Tin River, the Long Valley Wetland and San Tin.

The route of the new section can be found in the HKeMobility app.

Sarah Lee Wins Gold Infront of Home Fans

Hong Kong’s Sprint World Champion won her third consecutive sprint World Cup event at the HK Velodrome in front of her ecstatic home fans.

On Day 2 of the 2019-2020 UCI Track Cycling World Cup: Hong Kong, local star and current World Champion Sarah Lee Wai Sze was utterly dominant in the Women’s Sprint, storming to her third straight World Cup gold. 

Three Hong Kong riders competed in the Women’s Sprint, Sarah Lee clocked the fastest time of 10.590 seconds in the Qualifying 200m time trial and advanced to 1/8 finals with ease.

Jessica Lee Hoi Yan recorded a time of 11.002 seconds and advanced to the 1/16 Finals where she defeated Russian rider Natalia Antonova to progress, while Lee Yin Yin ranked last in the qualifying.

Sarah and Jessica went head-to-head in the last sixteen, with the reigning World Champion easily dispatching her teammate in straight races. Lee Wai Sze went unbeaten in the competition, defeating China’s Zhong Tianshi, Ukrainian Olena Starikova and Germany’s Emma Hinze in two straight races to win gold on home soil.

Lee’s win was her third straight UCI Track Cycling World Cup gold in 2019, having also won in Minsk and Glasgow, she’s now unbeaten in the sprint since last June.

Lee will compete in the Women’s Keirin on Day 3, hoping to double her gold tally on home soil.

Hong Kong Cyclothon – 13 October, 2018

In the dawn’s early light thousands of cyclists and fourteen professional cycle teams pedalled their way across Hong Kong in the fourth annual Cyclothon.

In the afternoon the eleven UCI WorldTour Teams, three Pro Continental Teams and the Hong Kong National Team raced all-out in Hammer Hong Kong, the Asian leg of the professional Hammer Series. Team Mitchelton-Scott emerging victorious on the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui to win the Hammer trophy.

UCI Track Cycling World Championships

The 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Championships will take place at the HK Velodrome from the 12-16 April (Wednesday to Sunday this week). 300 elite cyclists from over 40 countries will gather to compete for the famous rainbow jersey, symbol of UCI World Champion, which can be worn in every race while World Champion. This is the largest track cycling event ever hosted in Hong Kong.

Three World Champion are up for grabs on the opening day of the 5-day event: in the Women’s Scratch, Men’s Team Sprint and Women’s Team Sprint. London 2012 Olympic medalist and defending Asian Champion Sarah Lee Wai-sze will compete on home turf with fellow Hong Kong team members including Diao Xiao-juan, Cheung King-lok, Leung Chun-wing and Vivian Ma Wing-yu. Strong contenders from abroad include Team Great Britain’s Olympic Champions Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker, Steven Burke and Callum Skinner; Australias UCI World Champions Elinor Rebecca, Alex Porter, Callum Scotson and Sam Welsford; and Chinese athletes Zhong Tian-shi, Guo Shuang and Lin Junhong.

Mr. Leung Hung-tak, Chairman of HK Cycling Association said, “It’s our honor to host the 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Hong Kong. Local riders will definitely endeavour to obtain the best possible result in the Championships. We encourage the public to join the event and cheer for the Hong Kong Team!”
