Hong Kong Pride!

The fly on the wall in the offices of the Hong Kong Tourist Board and the Chief Executive might be excused for pissing itself while listening to the discussions about the latest Hong Kong prommotional image…

All those tourists coming to Hong Kong looking for big balls and lots of action… finding none and leaving empty, longing and unfulfilled… Hong Kong’s strong  ‘tourist satisfaction’ rating will become limp in the eyes of the world. With not even Jia Jia and De De able to raise some excitement.

Never Forget – Tian’anmen Square, 4 June 1989

Today we remember those who died in and around Tian’anmen Square in June 1989.

We light a candle in their memory! Not to make a political statement but because honouring and remembering those who have died is an important and integral part of Hong Kong, Chinese and yes English culture.

That some would threaten violence towards those who wish to remember the dead says far more about them than us… What next? Will the Ching Ming Festival be banned as well?

Tuen Ng Festival Drone Show

A festive Dragon Boat drone show organised by Hong Kong Tourism Board to celebrate the Tuen Ng festival attracted the crowds to the harbourfront last night.

A fleet of 1,000 illuminated drones used the sky as their canvas and painted drums, dragon boat races, and other topical images, showcasing Hong Kong’s traditions.

There’s another drone show on Saturday 15 June, the first day of the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races.

Congratulations Hong Kong!

Hong Kong’s dream of qualifying for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 remains alive after a 22-0 victory over Kazakhstan in the Asia Rugby Women’s Championship saw the women qualify for the WXV 3 tournament later this year.

Hong Kong Refugee Week 2023

The theme for the second Hong Kong Refugee Week, 19-25 June, is compassion and throughout June different NGOs, independent projects and refugee artists celebrate what compassion looks like in action through a program of arts, cultural and educational events.

Refugee Week, an annual open-source festival each June, celebrates the contributions, creativity, and resilience of refugees and people seeking asylum. Founded in 1998 it’s held every year around World Refugee Day (20 June).

Refugee Week’s vision is for refugees and asylum seekers to be able to live safely within inclusive and resilient communities, where they can continue to make a valuable contribution.

HK Refugee Week 2023 schedule

Refugee Week Hong Kong 2023 participating organisations include Grassroots Future, The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Hong Kong (UNHCR HK), Justice Centre Hong Kong, Hope, RUN Hong Kong, Youth Global Network.
