THE FLASHINGS - We want all our problems and obstacles to come to an end, so that our hearts can bloom the way they want. When will we be convinced that we are blessed? The day will come, I know, but I don’t know whether I will become beautiful. Why Not - Questions arise endlessly from the bottom of my heart, inspiring me to ponder such issues as sacrifice and care... Why? Why Me? What for? Who am I sacrificing everything for? Is this sacrifice meaningful or worthwhile or trivial? Is it right or wrong ? This show is directed by Yoon Jong-yeoun of Theatre Momggol, Korea. He is acknowledged in Korea for his powerful contemporary works, and his productions have been featured in many prestigious festivals in Korea and have also toured to Macau and The Netherlands. Why Not will tour to the Macau Fringe Festival in April and the ChunCheon International Mime Festival, Korea, in May.

Meanwhile, Sean is attracted to his new roommate Billy, who is heterosexual. Depressed and lost, Sean finds comfort in his new lover Ronald. Sean's deepest desire for true love soon leads him to an abysmal depression. (In Cantonese) |

Film
Restored Classic: Confucius
Director: Fei Mu
Hong Kong Film Archive, Cinema, 2:30pm, $30,
Tel: 2734 9009
Confucius has long been considered a lost classic. An extraordinary work that speaks of its time and our past, it was made by the great director Fei Mu during Shanghai's Orphan Island period, when Japanese forces overran much of the city, fencing in the city's foreign concessions. China's screens were dominated then by crude, maudlin costume dramas and producers Jin Xinmin and Tong Zhenmin boldly invested an exceptional budget on the film, determined to improve the quality of Chinese cinema. Confucius, the debut feature of Jin and Tong's Min Hwa Motion Pictures, is remarkably formalistic, its austere mise-en-scene portraying the title character not with sensational heroics but sorrowful dignity. The project was conceived in Hong Kong, where Fei and Jin had fled during the war. That it was rediscovered more than half a century later in the SAR offers again an evocative comment on our history.

From these issues, starts the study over the ways that a body can be manipulated by musical impulses selected by the audience – impulses that reshape the choreography during the performance. The interaction between audience and performer/creator Paula Aguas sets up the dynamic construction of the solo.

Of all the Brandenburg Concertos, No.3 is the biggest as far as the number of soloists is concerned, weaving three solo violins, three solo violas and three solo cellos into an intricate polyphony. Mozart’s concerto for violin and viola has given the violin’s deeper voiced cousin one of its rare masterpieces. Bartók’s extrovert modern concerto grosso playfully tosses folk themes back and forth between a solo quartet and a full string orchestra but in its middle movement conjures a chilling, midnight solitude.

Teatro SunSon (Taipei)
Ox Warehouse, 8pm, MOP40, Tel: (853) 2855 5555, (852) 7171 7171 Aurora is the light of fire, the basic instinct within ones heart to go towards light. It is also the motivation to seek for a way out. It is expression, dialogue and the call of the distant universe. It is like a river of time conveying its emotions and memories which were hidden deep within. The body is away from the reality and back into its purest state. Mother Earth is like an ancient witch, singing nurtures the wind, dance is the energetic fire, time is like flowing water. Our silent participation is a part of the ritual.

Pretending to be a theatre, but not. A performance pretending not to be a performance. In this era, many people and things are crazy. Are you performing, or am I? 3 different pieces with the same vigor reflects the present situation truthfully. Challenging the extreme, fooling with themselves, using lameness to fight against lameness, more absurd than the absurdity of the reality, an ultimate battle between the self and emptiness. A crazy piece of the Comuna de Pedra in its thirteenth year!We invite the audience to spend an unforgettable night with performers that cant sleep to wait quietly for dawn.A performance with the cast giving their best that will be performed nevermore.
