ANGEL INTERVIEW:
Ricky

Welcome back. You’ve been missing locally for four years, what made you come back?

Well, I have still been here, but not that much! Touring for the past three years and staying in hotels and airports, I didn’t have to think twice about returning to the club. I have very special memories from those first nights when I came to HK.

You’re from Sheffield and have seen the whole lifespan of dance music in the UK from the 1990’s till now. Do you think it has changed for the better or worse?
House music is always evolving and I would say it is healthier now than ever before. Globally it is everywhere!
Here in Asia, dance is a relatively new genre. How do you think it will evolve with time?
I think it has been maturing for the past three years, actually. Asia has a great dance scene with Tokyo leading the way.

Describe your sound.
Chunky progressive and phat!

Having played all over the world, what was your best gig and where?
So many to recall but I would have to say The Love Parade in 2006. There were 1.3 million people there and it really blew me away to play in front of a crowd that big.

What is in your iPod at the moment?
Tina Turner – the best of! And all the new tracks I have been sent this week. I like to listen to everything on long-haul flights to get familiar with the tracks.

You founded your own record label, 852 – what is the best part of producing?
The best part of producing has to be when you play the tracks out in a live situation at the clubs. To see the crowd go crazy to stuff you have made is really something else.

If you could change one thing, what would it be?
To be able to teleport myself to countries instead of flying!

If you could be resident DJ anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Hong Kong!

Send a message to the Hong Kongers coming to see you in March.
Please come down to the club, old friends and new – I’m looking forward to seeing you all again!

Ricky Stone will perform at the Q Club for four consecutive Saturdays, beginning on the 1st of March, joined by four local djs that will kick off the show every night. Entrance $200. Q Club,California Tower, 32 D’Aguilar Street, Central, 2868 6062
